Things are in motion everywhere. Here’s a quick update on what’s in front of various elected politicians this week:

  • Surveillance Camera Vote: The Taos County Commission is set to vote Tuesday morning on a state request to allow automated license plate readers (ALPRs) throughout the county. The Taos News reported on it today.

  • AI Data Center Moratorium: Commissioners for Costilla County, our neighbor to the north across the Colorado border, will hear an agenda item on Tuesday about their planning commission’s recommended data center moratorium. Watersheds and air pollution don’t abide by state lines so this is an important topic regionally.

  • Internet ID Bills: The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, to which New Mexico’s own Sen. Ben Ray Lujan is a member, will be voting on a handful of internet identification bills, aka, you may have to start uploading your driver’s license or state ID to gain access to some websites or platforms. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has a recap and an easy way for you to email your thoughts to both of New Mexico’s senators.
